All your efforts are pointless
Are you a sports fan? Do you follow basketball or football? Here’s something you probably know is right about every single successful sportsperson, but you don’t think about it much.
Every one of them has spent countless hours perfecting the technique and moves they execute so easily on the field.
Mike Tyson woke up at 3 AM and went for runs. Michael Jordan started his workout at 5 AM. Michael Phelps was up and at it by 4.30 am every day.
Most of these guys won the genetics lottery, but then they went out and outworked everyone else in the field.
We know their names, and we admire them. We marvel at how smooth they move and how easy they make it look, but we just don’t correlate it to the work they put in.
What’s happening to you too. People see you, they see your results. That’s all they care for. Nobody is impressed by the effort you put in. They are all waiting for the results.
The good news is, we are not competing against the world’s best athletes, and winning an Olympic medal is the farthest from our minds. Our lives are easier and honestly speaking you and I have a better chance of success than a sportsperson.
If you get things going, at the end of the day you are going to walk away with a victory. It’s not the winner takes all. You take in proportion for what you deliver. That sounds like a darn good deal to me.

I’ve been making software for 25 years now. It’s a lot of time and I’ve made a lot of software. Personally coding nearly 200 big and small tools.
I love this job. It’s the most amount of fun that I can have doing something that gives me money and I do it every single chance that I can get.
Creating a lot of products is how I sold so many of them.
Frankly speaking, most of the things I created weren’t spectacularly successful. Many of them even flopped and didn’t recover their cost, but several went on to become super-successes and financed all of my losses.
Couldn’t ask for more!
It took a lot of misses for me to find some hits. Nobody knows about all the things I created that nobody wanted before I created my first hit product. Yes, I have a bunch of them.
The most spectacular failure in my mind was a tool called Netvani that I created around 2010 to help businesses do better marketing on Twitter and Facebook.
I didn’t sell a single copy :).
It hurt like hell. It’s been a while since I thought about that one, and I don’t have the project or any details of it anymore.

Of course, now I’ve gone on and sold software worth millions of dollars. It just didn’t happen with the first one I created.
