Attention is all your business needs

You have a great product to sell. You’ve got fantastic arguments to make people buy it. You’ve also got the best price in the market.

And yet, it’s so hard to sell? Have you thought about why?

It’s all about attention.

Right now your business and mine; and everyone else’s is fighting for our buyers’ attention and it’s a commodity that’s very rare.

He’s bombarded from all directions with things that want it. Netflix wants it, his kids want it, his partner, the politicians, the billboards on the way to his work, all the messages on his phone, the Whatsapp statuses, the ads blaring at him before every YouTube video he plays.

It’s hard to sell if you have to seek out attention because it’s not only competition but also the fact that your prospect is geared to reject your advances.

The only way to break through is to hammer at it endlessly. Repeat it long enough and hard enough and finally you will have that sliver of attention that will result in a click and maybe turn into an order.

But here’s the good news. Once you have attention, it just keeps coming back. You have to establish familiarity only once and then you will stand out forever. That’s the beauty of attention.

Once your prospect takes a long, proper, and detailed look at you, their mind will learn to lock itself on you.

They will notice you out of 100 similar messages that they see that day. They will notice your ad out of 20 similar ones. They will see your name in the email inbox from all the unfamiliar ones. They will click on your thumbnail on YouTube.

All you need to do is break through hard, just once.

That’s what 80% of your marketing is about. To break through. Once you do, selling is just 20% of the game. Just be there when the customer has a need for your product.

Meanwhile, keep thinking of all the novel ways you can break through and get your prospect’s attention.
