Authority is the new digital oil
Google released a statement yesterday about what I’ve known is its most important ranking factor for years now.
Authority.
Google said that ‘topic authority’ is important for rankings.
I’ve known about it for a while because of my close association with my mother’s YouTube channel (nishamadhulika) which is India’s top cooking recipes channel with 13.6 Million subscribers.
She built this channel to this success with a focus on building authority.
That is what you need to do too if you want to build up your business with organic traffic.
Create authority in the niche you are targeting.
That’s how you will begin ranking for all the ‘short-tail’, high-value keywords and terms. That is the only way. No amount of ‘shiny toys’ is going to help. You will need to sit down and build authority.
So, how does one build authority?
The secret is consistency. Be there day after day, week after week, and month after month; rolling out content. Be there for the long haul. Create a variety of content focused on your topic. Put it everywhere.

Later YouTube locked down on many of the data sources it had opened earlier and I had to shutter the app.

Consistency - Create a posting plan for your mediums
Daily? Weekly? Bi-weekly? Monthly? What kind of commitment can you keep? Make that commitment and then make it happen.
If you don’t do this, you will always hope and wish you went viral. You could end up waiting forever while the sloggers build up their business.
One more thing. Consistency is useless without relevance and truthiness. I.e., be relevant to your audience and make sure you say it as it is. That’s what will bring you repeat viewers (authority). Without repeat viewers who believe in you, you can’t have authority.
