Did you find your ‘one thing that works’ yet?
In my spare time I like to study business strategies and opportunities. All the things that can help a business succeed, grow, and find its place among the competition.
I’ve noticed that different things have worked for different businesses. Some have succeeded by dint of SEO, while others make it happen with PPC, yet others have done webinars and grown their business that way.
Social, PPC, Web, SEO… Almost everyone seems to have found a particular way that works for them very well and not so well for all the others who tried it.
Isn’t that intriguing?

You could be doing well with social but failing at SEO and you get frustrated watching your competitor do SEO very well. Well, he might be secretly watching you and fretting why he can’t do social media like you do.
That’s the interesting bit about business- Things don’t work equally well for everyone.
I’ve done pretty well with affiliate marketing in the past and lately I am doing better with PPC and content marketing. I am trying to crack the other markets, it’ll take its due time.
But with what I have I am in a position to continue selling, creating new products and finding new customers.
It’s already a pretty good position to be in
That’s the thing about business. You don’t need 10 things to work for you. You need only one. With that one thing working, you can slowly unlock all the other doors.
As a promoter it’s your job to iterate quickly and find that one thing. SEO, PPC, Affiliates, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Forums… Whatever it is going to be, you better get there fast.
Try one thing at a time, see if it is scaling, see if you are having fun. If that’s happening, keep going at it. Don’t quit too early, don’t change the plan too soon. Things take time to take traction and yield results.
But, it’s equally important to know when to move on. For me it’s usually 3-4 months in. When I don’t see any progress after giving something a serious effort for 3-4 months, I file it and move on.
I might come back later when the opportunity is better or when I have learnt better, but in the meantime I will try to refocus on what works and scale it better.
It keeps the ship running
That leads me to the last bit- Don’t stop trying out new things.
Any existing strategy that works well today for you will stop working in the future without fail. Everything has a lifetime. When it’s time is up, you don’t want to be left with a business that doesn’t work any longer.
So it’s important to keep looking at new things and trying new things, even if your present strategy or systems are working wonderfully.
I’ve thanked myself more than once for starting off something that didn’t work early on but was there for me when my current business or strategy started dwindling.
