Don’t panic. Email marketing is not dead
Don’t panic. Email marketing is not dead
You must have heard about the latest changes (implemented today) from GMail & Yahoo for email deliverability.
First, don’t panic.
There’s a near certainty that will not affect you. It will affect only the spammers, and well… the ill-informed. If you are my reader, you can’t be either.
What’s the change?
Gmail & Yahoo will now no longer accept emails that arrive without a valid DKIM & SPF record associated.
All your emails sent from Gmail, Yahoo, etc will be delivered as usual.
Yes, these changes don’t affect the emails that you send out from GSuite, Gmail, YahooMail, etc. That means cold email marketers who used these platforms for their email reachout campaign are absolutely safe.
Their emails will be delivered as usual.
All your personal emails, business emails and emails that you send out using any established mailing platform are safe. You will see no change.
Pursueapp users. You’re fine!
All your emails sent from established marketing platforms will be delivered, but you need to make sure the setup is right
Marketing platforms like SendGrid, Amazon SES, MailEngine, Aweber, Getresponse, Drip, and Constant Contact, and everything else will continue working as usual.
The only requirement - make sure you’ve set up DKIM and SPF records on these platforms.
What are DKIM & SPF?
These are TXT records that you can create inside of your domain name provider’s DNS service, or inside your hosting account’s DNS service to identify that the marketing platform is allowed to send emails on your behalf.
Yes, that’s all there is. The marketing platform is authorized to mail people using your domain name.
These settings are simple, most platforms have detailed guides and you should be able to do it without a hassle.
Set it up once and you’re okay.

Your email marketing is going to be okay, in fact it will do better.
Mails that you send out from random senders without DKIM & SPF will not deliver
Got an app that just uses PHPmailer or in-built mailing software on any platform and is sent from another domain? It will not work.
Gmail & Yahoo will not accept it. It’s likely that Hotmail, Outlook, and other platforms also won’t accept it.
If that’s what you are doing, your marketing is dead.
Likely, you aren’t doing this at all.
What is gonna happen as a result of this?
This is trouble for spammers. Anyone who has been spoofing other domains, other senders, they are dead in the water.
Gmail & Yahoo will not deliver their emails unless there’s a valid SPF & DKIM record, which there won’t be.
It will reduce some spam coming to your inbox, and it will reduce phishing a lot. It’ll be harder for a scammer to convince email platforms that they are the original sender.
That’s a good thing. It doesn’t change anything in your business.
So relax, chill, make yourself some nice tea, put on calming music and get back to work.
We are good.
