Google’s November update is not making sense
If you want to run a successful business online, you have to always be ready for the next big change. It can come from anywhere. We didn’t see ChatGPT coming and yet it now affects everything we do online.
Well, sometimes old things come back. Things that were long forgotten and written off.
I did tell you a couple of weeks ago that Google is focusing heavily on conversations, forums, and places like Reddit or Quora would see higher traffic. Well, they did but something else did too and nobody was thinking about it.
I am talking about Google Groups
This is Google’s own forum website that was cool about a decade and a half ago. It was the place to go when you wanted to discuss anything. People built giant mailing lists using this, I did too.
Then better forums took over and it died off. Well, it’s back again.
Suddenly, Google Group posts are ranking all over Google and for money keywords too. Everyone’s a little surprised. What happened here?
Many Google groups who didn’t see action in years are now on page 1 of Google.
I went back and looked at things again. It’s insanely simple, blazingly fast and easy to access. So is it really cool again?
Could Google be preparing an all new version of Google Groups? Why not? They keep trying new things all the time and centralized Forums seem to be all the rage now.
Reddit is hot, Quora is hot, even Facebook Groups are hot and they aren’t even indexed by Google.
So why shouldn’t Google jump on the bandwagon too?
They have a huge advantage because they can just pump up the rankings a little bit and Google Groups will be all over the place.
That’s what they seem to be doing now.
So here’s a tip: Log into Google Groups, dust your old account there, do some fresh engagement, and then maybe start a fresh group on a topic.
You never know, you could end up on page 1.
