Is Musk preparing to take over Meta’s crown?
Is Musk preparing to take over Meta’s crown?
Earlier this month, X made news by streaming the controversial interview between Tucker Carlson and Putin. It earned a lot of criticism from people who said that Carlson gave a platform to Putin’s attempt to earn legitimacy for a very illegitimate war.
I studied it from the point of marketing.
This video has earned over 200 million views so far. It’s by far the most viewed news report or interview ever. The viewership is larger than the viewership earned by all the news networks combined. That’s quite a feat.
After making some really questionable moves, like asking people to pay a dollar to view X, Musk is now making moves that really seem Musk-worthy.
> Creating a position that’s unique and different from all the other social media websites.
> Using viral growth to explode the reach.
> Staying in the news and making sure people feel compelled to visit.
If you are in marketing, you should closely follow what is being done on X right now. Keep a tab on every move and think about how something like that can be done in your business.
In business, sometimes it’s good to have some enemies. Find enough people who share the same perspective as you and you have yourself a dedicated and loyal market for anything you want to promote.
X and Musk are controversial, but their demographic is large and they have viewership from both ends of the divide.

The result is for everyone to see. X is now the fastest-growing social media website, racing ahead to catch up with Facebook.
And it’s getting new features all the time. This time the stuff that really helps people instead of trying to get them to cough up money.
It appears to me that its growth being done right.
Meta’s X alternative, Threads is nowhere to be found and BlueSky is left far behind. Threads went public too early with too few features, and BlueSky has been too late in going public with availability.
Both of these networks failed to capitalize on the viral growth potential of controversy. Musk milked it.
It’s not bad to have enemies sometimes.
Here’s a thought - Even if you don’t have a public, acknowledged pick someone you want to beat and build your strategy in reference to that.
Pick the leader you want to take down. Find out what they are doing wrong and do that better.
It’s a classic strategy that works. I’ve used it multiple times to conceptualize and launch successful products in the market. Find a flaw in the market leader and build a product that fixes that flaw.
Do that and you can be the foil that earns a dedicated market share of its own.
On that note… Don’t forget to tell me what you think of this email. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
By the way… I created CloudFunnels, a ClickFunnel alternative with a similar thought. ClickFunnel is a very closed product that restricts its users. I created an open platform that does things differently and gives its users more control.
It has since then become one of my best products and has thousands of loyal users.
