Is the Internet dying?
Is the Internet dying?
Have you heard about Vice?
This was an Internet giant. A company valued at billions of dollars. Disney wanted to buy them some years ago for $3.5 billion and they just scoffed at them. “$3.5 billion! That’s too less Disney. How about $5 billion?”
Well, they are not laughing now.
Vice’s revenue has been falling every year and now nobody is ready to buy them. They are worth less than $400 million in the latest assessment.
What the heck! Someone made a giant loss.
This happened to Buzzfeed too. Buzzfeed closed down. Belly up! It’s dead.
And now… The Internet newspapers die too.
That was another content giant worth billions of dollars gone.
I think it’s greed that is killing the corporate Internet. Corporate content creators and media houses joined the Internet with free content and presented great-looking content in an awesome format, but they got greedy.
Now nearly everything is behind a paywall and subscription.
Guess what, people aren’t paying.
They are choosing to use alternative, non-mainstream sources of information. Medium is thriving, Substack is thriving, Discord is thriving, and Reddit is thriving.
Corporate content, not so much. The Internet is not dying, Corporate media is!
It’s good news for us. This means that people are looking for personal content; they are looking to hear from human beings and they want to feel involved.
Vice dying is not so bad as long as 100 creators like you spring up on Medium and Discord.
What do you think about this? Do you think the opportunity for you and me is growing?
How do you intend to capitalize on this in the coming months or years?
I will share my strategy and learnings with you regularly, so watch out for my emails.
And now to today’s promotion
Webinars are amazing. Every time I do them I pull in some thousand dollars. Sadly I don’t like webinars that much. I like to code not talk.
So I run a lot of Webinar replays (live webinars that I recorded and replay as live to an audience).
I have also built a software for it.
