It’s out! Google’s October 2023 Update : This One’s Out To Get The Spammers

Google dropped a bombshell this morning – They’ve just released another update to the search engine and this one’s a massive one too like the one released last month.

In September a lot of SEO professionals went out of business after the Helpful Content Update. Reddit was filled with the helpless cries of heartbroken website owners.

Well, October seems to be no less eventful. The major update this month is called the “Google Spam Update”.

Last month they ranked up content that the algorithm decides is helpful, and this month they are going to massively derank a lot of content they think is spam.

The trouble is, nobody really knows what Algorithm picks as helpful or spammy. A lot of webmasters last month were upset because they ran helpful content sites with genuine, custom-generated content.

But they got deranked anyway.

This can happen yet again, but I think this update is primarily targeted at spammy, repurposed content.

Autoblogs, blogs that pull content from Forums, from YouTube and convert it into articles, could be at high risk.

It’s easier than ever for Google to find the original source of some content so copied content just posted without a major rework is going to feel the pain.

Here’s my advice about content marketing on Google (what I’ve been saying for some months now).

Just EEAT it!

>Expertise

>Authoritativeness

>Trustworthiness

It’s fine to build this with AI, but it has to be authentic. That’s one word for all of this– authentic content.

Pick a niche, select the topics and then create human-generated, AI-augmented content.

That will work in the long haul

By the way, in case you didn’t know this yet, October is the month for another major update from Google but this time on Gmail.

They are going to make it massively more difficult for people to inbox if they are sending over 5,000 emails a month to Gmail. They also got Yahoo on board.

So if you are into mail marketing, watch what you are doing.

I am keeping an eye on this and will give you the right advice when the time comes.
