Meta is working on AGI – LLama3
Zuckerberg released a video on Threads some days ago where he talked about AGI. In that video he said that the world needs AGI and his company is working towards creating it and making it open source ‘responsibly’.
Well, that escalated fast.
Just last month Sam Altman said AGI was ‘aspirational’, and he didn’t see a breakthrough happening very soon, and this week Zuck’s said he’s on the path to achieving AGI.
Btw… Meta has invested close to $20 billion on hardware infrastructure to train AIs. That’s nearly double OpenAI’s total budget.
That’s a lot of money that Zuck is putting into AI and unlike the other two AI companies (OpenAI/MS and Google), he’s not creating proprietary products, he’s open-sourcing it.
Llama2 was trained at Meta and open-sourced. It sparked 1000 different implementations and created dozens of AI companies that applied it specifically to create amazing products.
All to the loss of Google and OpenAI.
With Llama3 Meta could really scorch its competition. OpenAI is a pure AI company and if AI is free, it doesn’t have an income source. Not if it can’t lease or rent out its AIs to service providers or end customers.
Google is struggling to make sense of AI. Can it survive in a world where the AI gives all the answers? We have yet to find out.
Meanwhile, Zuck wants AGI.
What is AGI? An intelligence that is absolutely aware of its situation in the world and can reason as well as a human being. In other words, a ‘sentient’ machine.
Of course, unlike human beings, it will have access to all the data of the world.
Well… How that is going to pan out will be fun to watch.
