The biggest techwar ever is on. Let the AI wars begin!
I’ve been around for a while and I have more than gray hair to remember it by. In the 90s when I first got into computers there was a huge rivalry between Microsoft and Linux.
Linux was trying to replace Microsoft as the de-facto operating system for the personal computer and Microsoft was battling hard to retain its position. Microsoft won it convincingly and Linux was kicked out of the desktops and went on to dominate the server market.
This position allowed Microsoft to pretty much dictate where the desktop computer market headed for the next 2 decades.
The next big fight was the Browser Wars and this time the victory went to Google with its Chrome browser. Arguably, it’s the browser that made Google the dominant Internet company that it is today.
You can gauge how important this lead is to Google by the fact that Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, was heading the Chrome browser team before he got to head Google. He got this position because he showed how good he was at fighting and winning tough battles.
Well, the mother of all tech wars is now here and the company that wins this one will take over everything.
It’s the AI war and it has just begun.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is an answer bot. It’s great but at the end of the day it’s an answer bot. Generative AI is not the best application of AI and finally products are being created that use AI for more than content creation.
It started with CoPilot.
CoPilot began as a coding assistant for programmers. Writing their code and answering code related questions but Microsoft was able to quickly expand it to other apps and now there’s a CoPilot product built into everything.
Office, Skype, the Windows operating system. Everything has CoPilot now.
That’s where the real war will be.
Intelligent assistants that specialize in a specific domain and help you get things done better and faster.
Google entered the fight today with Gemini.
They are still two iterations behind Microsoft/OpenAI alliance, but they are catching up fast.
Today they renamed the Bard ChatBot to Gemini and introduced a paid version. The advanced (Ultra 1.0) version of Gemini is available to you with a subscription of Google One Premium.
It gives you the advanced ChatBot, as well as other Google One features, but here’s the real kicker, Google also said that Gemini will soon be integrated into Google’s apps like Docs, Sheets, and more.
Specialized agents are coming to every single device you’ve ever used.
They are going to redefine your world in ways you never even imagined. They’ll go much beyond Fridges that remind you what to order based on the inventory that’s inside.
It’s going to get crazy… Fast.
How do you run a business in that sort of world?
By staying ahead of the curve. When technology takes over, it takes away the livelihood of a lot of people, but it makes a huge amount of money for a smaller number of people.
You better be in that smaller crowd.
I will be helping you along by keeping you notified about everything I hear that’s relevant.
