I am a sucker for motivation. I am. It’s always been so and no matter what I’ve heard some guys have told me, this has worked for me.
I think of motivation as a recurring need, like hunger or thirst. You keep running out of it, you keep building it back up. It’s not an eternal power supply that you switch on and forget for the rest of your life.
So, what’s the best advice I ever got anywhere?
It’s from that guy Brian Tracy – Eat that frog. Do the hard things first. Can’t say it enough.
Recently, I was listening to another talk from Tracy and he spoke on this theme again. It struck home all over again.
Discipline is the most powerful skill an entrepreneur can have and it’s built by doing the difficult things first.
If you have discipline, you can channelise your energies, your effort and put it in the best place that yields results.
This is important for entrepreneurs at any level, but it’s especially important for small business owners. If you are standing solo against tough competition, you have to be tougher.
Here’s a fact, and I am sure you’ve noticed it too, the most important things are the most difficult ones. Low-productivity tasks are simple.
Everyday I start planning my day in my little notebook and I put the difficult tasks on top. Then my mission is to strike it off as early as possible.
That’s how I am building up all new systems and processes. I just write them down. If it’s written down, I just have to do it. I have to strike it off. I built a compulsion around it.
So all you OCD guys... This is the most useful thing you could be compulsive around
Usually, I am a very reclusive person. I don’t do many videos and I don’t create videos featuring myself. Recently, I started writing down topics that I have to create videos on that feature me.
And it’s coming together.
