Twitter Is Now Truly Dead… Here’s What’s Next

I have to admit it, I am a little furious. It seems like such a waste to see a decade-and-a-half-old brand die to be replaced with a meaningless alphabet.

Twitter is now X. Utterly and completely.

The logo is gone, and the app’s name is changed on the app store too. You still go to Twitter.com to access it but I am very sure that in days from now you will see it redirected to X.com.

Then will come massive changes. For now, it is only the identity that’s lost, next the character will go.

When I think about what Elon is doing it seems to me like desperation. He sank $40 billion in there and sold $40 billion of Tesla stock to finance this. It better be worth more!

It can’t be worth more than $40 billion in its present form because Twitter’s value proposition to its audience is lower. It doesn’t have a multi-dimensional content engine like Facebook and Instagram duo, so advertising revenues will never get Musk there.

The only thing that can work is if he can transform it into an app that people use for transactions. 

Remember, Musk came from Paypal. He knows the value of enabling transactions. To make the app turn a profit he has to disrupt a new industry. It won’t be a social network.

The only trouble is, young people are not on Twitter. They are on TikTok and Instagram to a certain extent. Musk is building a product with the best target market among the young, but he bought the wrong app to reach them.

It must be chaos in the Musk world. No wonder he’s pulling antics like organizing that stupid fighting match between himself and Zuck. Both of them need to milk every shred of attention they can get with their mutual fiascos (Twitter & Metaverse).

Well, at least the rest of us will get some drama out of seeing two pencil-necked geeks fight.
