Vertical video ads are coming to YouTube

Here’s some good news for advertisers and content creators – YouTube has started to show ads in YouTube Shorts. Yes, vertical ads are finally coming to YouTube.

Right now they are available only to a few advertisers but I don’t think it’ll be long before they roll out to everyone in the world. Maybe just a matter of weeks.

Here’s what this means–

1. Shorts are going to be monetized better - Creators have been unhappy that they haven’t been able to make money from shorts on YouTube, that could change. YouTube is likely to increase the payout of impression-based earnings for Shorts. More money is coming!

2. Advertisers get access to another compelling ad format - Shorts are wildly popular on YouTube. More than 15% of YouTube’s watch time is from Shorts which is crazy considering how small Shorts videos are.

YouTube Shorts are growing and they are more popular among the TikTok-trained younger audience. If you have a product that targets young people, then vertical ads are going to be really good for you.

I expect the ads to be quite affordable when they are first launched because of lower competition. I surely will be trying them out when they are available to me and I will share the results with you.

I have been writing a little about paid traffic and if you haven’t tried it yet then start considering it. Craft a compelling offer and run a lead campaign.

Here’s my favorite workflow in my marketing

Ads -> Leads / Sales -> Mails -> Sales

Run ads to a page that gets you either sales or leads. I like to sell right at the outset because that often pays for my ads, but I also grab leads. Bringing both together is important.

Then I regularly reach out to my prospects through email. That’s what gets you repeat sales and long-term customers.

This is a simple workflow but it has worked for me very well in the past year.
