A couple of years ago, when Zuckerberg talked about Meta and his vision where people wear headsets that hide the reality from them so that they could exist in a make-up world.
Everything would happen in the ‘metaverse’.
Meetings, marriages, dating, friends hanging out. People would be lining up for virtual real-estate in make-believe worlds. That’s what Zuck hoped.
I was asking myself, just how far disconnected from reality this mega billionaire was. People spending all their time in a poorly animated 3d cartoon?
Naah. That wasn’t happening.
And it didn’t. Metaverse was a giant failure and even Zuck hesitates to talk about it now. Sure, Meta has done well despite it and everyone’s getting paid big, but it’s not from meta.
But now we do have a tech that takes Meta’s vision and enhances it.
People are going to wear bulky headsets but instead of getting disconnected from reality, they are going to use them to enhance it.
It’s like Google Lens, but done right.
Yes, it’s Apple’s Vision headset.
I checked it out late because I was skeptical about the basic tech itself, but recently when I finally saw the demos, it struck me. This is going to stick!
This device enhances every aspect of reality, giving you a near-accurate picture of it and then supplementing it in ways you hoped the real would behave.
That’s the tool we needed. Something that would explain reality, make it simple, not take it away.
This device and this lifestyle is going to be big. Of course, we are still years away from it becoming mainstream and taking over everything like the iPod, iPad and iPhone did, but I have no doubt that it’ll happen.
And not just from Apple. This is absolutely coming to every platform.
Now the big question is, how can we benefit from this change in the world.
The introduction of the phone made the Internet personal and gave power to communication tools like Facebook and WhatsApp.
