What type of entrepreneur are you?

What type of entrepreneur are you?

One of the lessons you learn on early on in entrepreneurship is that it’s hard. It takes a lot more work than a regular job and a lot more consistency.

You will need to be there for your business at every opportunity. There is simply no click and forget type of business that you can run sustainably. It doesn’t exist because business is all about producing value. You will have to produce it.

But, there are certainly different ways to approach entrepreneurship. You can create a highly sustainable and profitable business that caters to a small niche, a specific customer segment and doesn’t take much work.

Just keep doing it over and over and you will make profits.

Many content creators, agency owners and marketers run this kind of business. They have found an audience and know how to keep them happy.

Not every business has to start by inventing the greatest new app, build the best ecommerce website or create a completely new category.

I am sure you’ve heard of the ‘blue ocean’ and the ‘red ocean’ strategy. They talk about legendary founders who have created entire new markets with a new class of products that nobody had seen before.

Elon Musk, Steve Jobs… There are a handful of names that get talked about over and over.

There’s a reason why it’s the same names over and over. It’s the hardest way to run a business. When you start out with a totally unknown idea and concept, you have to sell your customers the idea not the product.

It’s infinitely easier to sell a product.

Sure, the ‘blue ocean’ is the right way to go if you want to create a billionaire level business but there are tens of thousands of millionaires and multi-millionaires who created their fortune without having to create a category.

I know product creators who entered highly competitive markets with a new feature or even just a new marketing angle and created a million dollar business.

In a world that’s dominated by Amazon, there are thousands of e-commerce sellers who have built great stores that are just a little bit more specialized.

It’s less glamorous, but it’s far less work and definitely more doable.

You could pick up an enterprise like that, do intensive research for two weeks and that would be enough to figure out how it works – marketing techniques, sourcing, product angles. Everything!

Then you can just do the same thing that your model is doing and actually make money by adapting it for your region or audience.

I can tell you this works because I’ve done it again and again.

Get out of the ‘I need to invent it’ mindset. Instead, figure out how it works. It’s easier to build a business that way.
