Can Structured Data really give you a ranking boost?

Can Structured Data really give you a ranking boost?

Google indexes nearly 4.5 billion websites, but that’s only 5 percent of the entire web. The web goes really deep and 96% of it is unexplored by Google.

Is your website a part of this?

For all the AI and server farms that Google opens, it still faces a giant problem – that of comprehension.

Google needs to make sense of the content on your website and it needs to do that fast and cheap. The more Google understands the content the better it will rank because Google will be able to show it for more relevant search queries.

So yes, optimize your content. Create a well-designed responsive page, use semantic HTML, and after you’ve done all that, see if your site can implement structured data.

Structured Data has been around for a while and has been through many iterations, and now has many options for you. You can use Json, Microdata, or RDF formats to provide data to Google and other search engines.

What is Structured Data

In addition to all the content that you show your users on the page, you also include specially formatted data that’s easy to understand for the search engine but is not visible on the page.

For example, if you run a cooking website, your structured data snippet can have things like ratings, titles, recipe steps, ingredients, etc., in a marked-up format that Google can understand.

Then, when people search for that recipe or for recipes using the ingredients you specified, your site may get a chance to rank.

Not easy to implement

The trouble is that structured data is technical. It requires some implementation of programming, so it’s not straightforward to implement. You won’t likely be doing it all by yourself.

If you have WordPress or a CMS that supports structured data using plugins, then you can use those to provide this info, otherwise you might need a technical person to integrate this into your website.

Start by googling for structured data plugins if you use a CMS to find your options

Which niches work with Structured Data?

Lots.

Recipes, shopping, videos, guides, local businesses, medical events, and so many more. Actually, it’s dozens! Nearly every industry, every type of site will have its own specific structured data format.

Just search for your industry + structured data and you will discover what you need to do.

My conclusion is… If you can invest in Structured Data for your site then do it. Don’t hold back. This change is significant and Google can show your content in Rich Format. You’ll get more exposure, more visitors and that means more money.
