Can you buy an audience?

One of the first things we learn while running a bootstrapped business is, vanity metrics don’t matter. At the end of the day, you need to count the cool, hard cash and if it is more than what you spent, you go on to the next day.

So why do people still flock to things like -

> PBNS (Private Blog Networks) - Get a link to each one of them. Does it boost your rankings?

> View exchanges - Buy Instagram followers, YouTube views, and Facebook page likes

> Fake reviews - 1,000 reviews for $100! 😀

Have you bought any of these in the past? If the answer is yes, then I know how it worked out for you. It didn’t.

Don’t waste money on fake engagement and vanity metrics, at best it won’t work and at worst it will destroy your asset.

▶️ Don’t try to circumvent the algos you want the money from

All social networks, search engines, etc have in-built fault detection mechanisms that are designed to detect fake engagement and content. These are designed by ivy league engineers and mathematicians who are constantly improving them.

Now you could beat them, but the chances are low.

The bigger reason why it won’t work is that if you have an audience that doesn’t engage, you have no audience at all. What’s the point of having 3,000 subscribers on YouTube when none of them watch your videos?

YouTube can read that. If the subscribers don’t log in at all, or don’t bother to engage when YouTube sends them info about your new video, it’s clear that you’ve built a fake audience.

▶️ Organic growth matters

The result is you don’t get any organic growth either.

So please, don’t listen to coaches who tell you that you can steal your way to success. You can’t. They are lying to you. They haven’t done it themselves and you can’t do it following their system.

See what real top voices are doing. Those are the systems you need to create. Do that and you will actually build something worthwhile.

This is the same for PBNs. You have links, but you don’t have clicks and traffic. The PBN sites don’t have clicks and traffic either. Even if the PBN owner brings some fake traffic to the sites or pumps up the numbers somehow, it’s a sham or at best temporary.

Better build your links the old-fashioned way. The way they stay.

▶️ No more vanity metrics

Same for Instagram. You could feel good about having those extra 10,000 followers but your wallet feels lighter and those followers don’t engage. 

That account is going to be dead in a year. You will lose interest too.
