Google really hates AI because of this…
The little guys are all worried about AI. “What if an AI will take my job?” It’s not a total fantasy. AI will definitely change the job market and destroy existing jobs as well as create new ones.
But what if the biggest impact that AI creates is on the big corporations?
What if the unforeseen impact that nobody has been thinking about yet is that AI makes the big tech companies unviable?
How can that be? Don’t big corporations benefit the most from automation and replacing people with AI?
Not if they can’t control it.
ChatGPT is not the end of the AI story, it’s only the beginning.
Now of course we know the company OpenAI as being well-funded after Microsoft put in $10 billion, but just a little over a year ago it hardly had any money and created ChatGPT with those resources.
The next set of people who are doing this are doing this even cheaper.
ChatGPT’s AI took a few million dollars to train and release, but there are other AIs coming up that have been trained at ridiculous numbers.
There’s Vicuna-AI, which was trained for less than $10,000.
Last week there was another called MBT-7 which was trained for $300.
$300 vs a few million?
Can you even imagine the difference in this scale?
That’s the good news. The big companies do not have a monopoly over AI tech and models. What they spend 1000 times to do, someone in the open source community replicates for a fraction of the amount.
That’s the trend that I see continuing.
Most of the innovation in AI in the coming days is not going to be from Google and Microsoft or even OpenAI. It’s going to be from small groups of people who banded together with a unique idea.
For example, how did MBT-7 train a very intelligent model for $300? It just used a public repository of ChatGPT responses to questions.
Wow!
Think about it. ChatGPT took the entire Internet to build a model and then had to do things over and over to fine-tune it to the stage that it became useful.
But MBT-7 just took what ChatGPT had learned and the way it handled the responses and made a model that’s just as intelligent.
That was an incredibly simple but original idea.
That’s what the community can do.
Google’s already facing major heat. One of the AI engineers at Google recently wrote an email to the top brass, telling them that ‘Google has no Moat’.
That they can’t compete with open source when it comes to AI.
Who needs to go to Google when an AI that runs on your computer, or on a cheap server somewhere can give you all the answers?
I told you some mails ago, nobody truly knows how AI will change the world. We all worry, but things never go to expectations, do they?
Today the big tech giants are feeling the heat just as bad as any of us.
> What if the software is so easy to write that anyone can write custom software from home?
> What if the information is so easily accessible that you don’t need Google?
> What if the next tech revolutions happen at homes not labs with the help of AI?
What if it actually works out in the favor of the little guys like you and me?
It can happen.
