Google restricts 3rd party cookies for 1% of users
“No more cookies for you,” that’s what Google is telling its advertisers.
They just restricted third-party cookies on 1% of the world’s Google Chrome users. It’s called enhanced privacy mode and today Google is offering it all over the world to the 1%.
That’s 32.2 million users. Yes, Google Chrome is used by 3.22 billion users. Even 1% of that sounds like a hurtful number.
Google will not allow third-party cookies for users who accept enhanced privacy. That means advertisers will not get tracking data.

Cookies are the most common (I am talking 90% adoption) way to track online advertising. Conversions, usage, retargeting, affiliate payments, everything is based on Cookies.
With third-party cookies gone, advertisers can’t track this anymore, and that’s why it’s the cookie calypse.
Sure it’ll hurt businesses like mine and probably yours, but it’ll hurt Google too. They are the biggest advertising platform and with 3rd party cookies gone, tracking is harder for them too.
They have to do it anyway because of higher regulation and push from the people for greater privacy.
Have no doubt that 1% will go to 10% and then to 100% in just about a year.
